Abstract
PROtotype TExt Understanding System is a natural language processing system developed starting in 1986 in the Computer Science Department of New York University, under the direction of Prof. Raph Grishman. Its objective is to develop a complete system for text analysis which can be used in various applications; information retrieval and machine translation have been explored so far. At this point, the system has been applied to English, Spanish, and Japanese. It is based on the linguistic theories of Z. Harris and the guistic String Project of N. Sager. The Spanish version has been and continues to be developed by Antonio Moreno and Cristina Olmeda. (Web)
