Describes a pruning-based method for mapping decision trees to neural networks, which can compress the network by removing unimportant and redundant units and connections. Equivalent decision trees extracted from the pruned networks are simpler than those induced by well-known algorithms such as ID3 and C4.5. (AU) |

Contribution to a thematic issue on interoperability. The quest to achieve a semantic web is a recent one, but the quest for meaning in language is much older. Surveys the historical background, and reviews the contributions of the Dublin Core. Discusses the syntactic and semantic interoperability necessary to achieve a semantic web. Explores the use of propositional logic, instead of concept systems. (AU) |
